Texturing & rendering marathon (Substance Painter & Octane) for learning purpose started in january 2015.
I Am quite happy with Substance Painter & Octane (over 100 render are done so far) even there are some limitations
in Substance Painter such as the max. resolution output at 4K.

Whatever .. if you interested visit my flickr 3d album every item was painted with S.P. and rendered with Octane.

thank you :-) I use MoI 3D (CAD) or Modo (Polygon) for standard modeling and uv mapping. But not all of them are my models ...
simply I did not came up with an idea every day and I don't like abstract render that much. Most of the models are from grabcad.com (on flickr I add a tag from the source to all image) from that point I convert, export and create UVs, split and group objects, add materials and texture/paint it with Substance Painter.

At the beginning I build the models by myself and it took me always at least 1 or 2 days to finish the modeling before I could started with texturing and rendering.
It can be very frustrating If you looking for free models to improve your skills in texturing and rendering ... there are mostly weapons, furniture and cars available.
But the CAD-scene have plenty unseen & amazing stuff in the clouds.

I also open the CAD files with MoI3D and export them as OBJ!
hope it helps.
