I'm not sure AE supports multi-layer EXR. However Nuke does (and there is a non-commercial free version). You can also use http://djv.sourceforge.net/ to check the EXR files are being written as expected.

It depends how AE handles the EXR's. The Poser plugin will be tonemapping render outputs for the png. Try Imager response Linear or unticking Render Passes->Tonemap.

If anyone is looking for an alternative to AE
The free version of Fusion has very nice multi-layer EXR support

When you export to EXR All Layers, the plugin exports UN-TONEMAPPED (ie. Gamma, Camera Response, Highlight Compression, Saturation and Saturate to White are NOT applied to the saved EXR. So when loaded in AE/Nuke/Fusion, they will load in Linear color space and then color map to whatever you set them to - ie. sRGB = gamma 2.2.

tonemapped NOT supported all passes
and in any case the result is modified compared to the original render (beauty png)

original png = gamma 1.0
the EXR tonemapped = gamma 0.45 (from original png gamma)
the EXR All Passes = gamma 1.8 (more some slight color correction from original png)

is not possible export without any gamma correction ?
