Thinking of ordering 2 Titan X EVGA super clocked. Would there be any problem fitting 2 titanX on my Asus P9X79 mobo . Note that it is the standard version not the pro version of the motherboard. I need a new PSU as well as the one i have is only 700W. How many W do i need? Never had dual GPU´s before.
This is the motherboard i have. It has 2 slots and they seem to have enough distance aprt for OK cooling?

Yes it will work fine on P9X79 MBO.
As for PSU, well that depend son your other components. Nvidia says that max TDP for Titan X is 250W so that's 500W in your case just for GPUs (2*250) which means that you might have enough with 700W PSU if is some brand name PSU with good stability and Peak power a bit over 750W, Still octane don't really draw max TDP form GPUs anyway so you might need less than 500W for GPUs in Octane. It depends what CPU and other components in your machine are.

as Lewis mentioned it should work fine, but it depends on Your PSU - I have 750 & it's enough for couple of cards..- for two TitanX You need a couple sets of 8+6, plus some power for Your mobo..& then the rest You got on the system..
If You don't have enough 6pins, You can combine them from Two molex - most of cards (I've bought) arrive with those in the box =) check maximum amp rating, look at all the components You have & You might not need any PSU upgrade at all..
feel free to drop part lsit beloow if You're not sure..plus, ho old is You PSU (how much You've been using it? daily or just once in a while..) 'cos those do degrade with time..so if You encounter any stabilityu issues, especially under load - check this element first.
P.S. You card motherboard is very good for that kind of setup. If You PSU allows & You have enough airflow You can try to do custom fan curves for Your GPU & OC them a bit to get 10-15% boost on air.. - this card is awesome =)

just to back up PSU needs: here's a shot from DigitalStorm tests :

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. I guess i could keep my PSU and test if its stable, if not order a new one. Its about 1 year old and has been working very hard rendering. I also use Agisoft Photoscan a lot and the processing times on large projects can sometimes be 100 hours or more also doing batch processing. Currently i have a single old style Titan 6GB card. Would it maybe be possible to fit 2x Titan X and 1 x Tian 6GB on my mb? I was guessing not possible so i plan move the 6GB to another computer that needs an upgrade anyway.
I also have this installed in the case. The case is also very well ventilated with huge fan in front and back.
1 SSD 300GB
1 1TB 7000 RPM HD
1 4TB 7000 RPM HD
64 GB RAM
4930K 6 core CPU
Externally i constantly have a USB 2 TB drive connected.
So not a lot of stuff. No sound card or anything.
Will try over clocking the cards i think. What is the best app for this?
Is it worth buying the EVGA Superclocked version over the standard one? The price difference is only 80 USD here in Sweden.

Attaching image. Turns out the PSU is a Be Quiet 700W
http://www.bequiet.com/en. Unfortunately the PSU is on the bottom of the case so i guess could be hard to fit 3 Titan cards right?

In Your situation two cards is the best bet =)
case (is that one of Fractal cases?) is a bit too small, pluss motherboard is not good for more than two GPUs - bottom slot is going to operate at way lower speeds & this upload of Your scenes to GPU would be slower =)
if You can get two Xs this should perform 3 times as fast as it runs now =) I think for 2k$ investment - that's a good deal =)
as for SuperClocked.. - it's nothing bad to take it if You're not looking to touch anything..if You are looking to OC those anyway..I'd say regular model is enought as You're going to make all those changes by hand..
as for HHDs/SSDs You can try to put those into optical drive bays with some bracket & remove cages in front of Your cards to allow better airflow =) this will help to keep Your cards cooler getting more performance out of them =)
as forsoftware..MSI efeterburner, EVGA Presicion X, etc.. - maybe some other will give You more or better advice, but I'd say all of these OC packages are more or less the same..Cosmetic changes, intrface that differ most..

Yes i think Titan X will be worth the money for me. 12GB comes in handy to as in some scenes with multiple 16K textures i run out.
Thanks a lot for the advice!

Might want to be careful with going with just a 750W PSU...Even though you may never spike above that, it WILL run warmer than something more powerful, which means cutting into the lifetime of your 750W unit. I just like to be careful. IMHO it is also important if one of your fans happens to die on you, and you don't know it, which means your case will run even hotter. Heat kills and shortens the life of everything in your case.

Yeah - that's why it's not advised to save on PSU - these could kill entire system =) pluss You need to take into consideration the fact that PSU loose their efficiency as they are used..-so it's better to have more power just for piece of mind. would be no big deal if You would use Your PC just as regular desktop, once a while topping out, but mostly running at 5-10% of it's capabilities, but..when You are pushing it nearly to 100% & sometimes 24/7..it might really payoff to invest into something better. It's better not to learn this in a hard way..
