Rhino proxies and RhinoGrow / Phantom Scatter = HELP!

Can anyone explain me step by step workflow to follow to create scattering in Rhino, using both RhinoGrow and Phantom Scatter?
I tried it in different ways following some discussions in this forum and website developers, but my scenes are always empty! I do not know what else to do, really!
Please help me

If you have an existing CSV from PhantomScatter, add a plane to your scene, change it to a Block Definition and assign the CSV to it in the Geometry tab of the plugin and also assign a proxy geometry file (OBJ). http://render.otoy.com/manuals/Rhino/?page_id=449

Thanks for your reply face_off!
I made several other tests and I found it in the end...I was missing a step
Anyway RhinoGrow keeps giving me problems with CSV

I still have to learn how to use well, but at least for now I keep using Phantom Scatter, although RhinoGrow is much more simple and quick...

The errors you are seeing are due to an invalid transformation matrix from RhinoGrow, and based on the error showing a zero as the first transformation value, a zero would only be present if the "grown" object instance had an X Scale of 0. So perhaps try to make sure the scale is > 0 and see if that works better.

ok I'll try....Maybe I was too hasty and I have not changed the scale parameters.
Thank you very much face_off! :)

I changed the X Scale value (>0) but the result was the same: always the same error and always zero as the first transformation value :?
Anyway...not bad! It is true I'd like to also use RhinoGrow, due to its simplicity and directness, but I don't have much time so I think I will continue with Phantom Scatter for now.

Another question (more or less related to the same main topic):
How can I export a model, with octane materials applied on, as .obj without losing those materials? Basically when I reload the .obj model materials are still there, but they are converted into standard rhino materials, so I lose all the advanced parameters of octane. The same, of course, happens when I load the file in the geometry tab for scattering and I can't replace the proxies materials later.

I hope I was clear :P

Hi sfuga - I had a quick double-check about the matrices - I am unable to re-create the issue using the default settings. Does your viewport produce something akin to the attached? Could you please email me a screenshot (similar to the attached) as well as the relevant files? (Rhino file with base and scatter geometry, plus .obj file for Octane, plus the .csv file that was generated). I'd be happy to have a look.

Thanks newske, email sent...Let me know!

Meanwhile, I would be very happy if someone was able to explain how to export a model as a .obj file without losing the connected octane materials :P

Hi. Open the OctaneRender Viewport in Rhino, righclick the Settings tree "Export Scene to OCS". Open the exported scene in Octane Standalone, rightclick the Mesh and Save as ORBX. You can then use that ORBX as a proxy source in the OctaneRender for Rhino plugin.

Paul excuse the delay, I have not had time to reply or to try what you've advised me.
I just wanted to thank you for your time!
