Render with Backburner

Do I have to use Backburner when I want to render multiple scenes in a row?
Could someone write down a quick overview what to take into account?
Can I set a specific sampling level when the render stops and then saves all render passes and then the next one starts?

We use this all the time. Works quite satisfactory.
