Neither cores # in standalone nor marquee cut in AC 18

Hi there,

Just bought that baby and I'm happy about it.
Two questions in the beginning -

- I don't know what's up with that question mark, as attached, since I've got a brand new machine with the i7-4790K 4.0 GHZ 8 core or whatever you call it.
- second, just checking the new plugin for AC 18 and as I can see there is no marquee cut in 3D Octane Render window.
Is just because of beta release or it's the way it is?

Cheers,
Marek

Hi,

I do not know why it showes a question mark, but it is not about the CPU... The info is only about GPU.
(GPU has number of cudacores).

What are you exactly missing of the 3D Marquee?
If you use a marquee on your model you have to update the plugin geometry to have only see the new selection in the render window. Or do you meansomething else?

Greetings,

Hi,

I don't know either that thing with the question mark, but what I've noticed today after importing to Octane a pretty big project from AC 18 is that Selecting Object layers Mode (O) is not working at all. Despite what I pick in render window it doesn't select a thing.
The reason of importing was that every time I tried to open Octane plugin in 3D window in ArchiCAD, AC crushed. 17 regular and 18 trial. as well. Just in this particular model.

Speaking about Marquee - I meant marquee selection in 2D opened in 3D window as a cut part of the model.
And what confused me was that although model was refreshing in Octane render window when rotated, it didn't show a marquee cut selection in 2D. And you're right you need to press Refresh geometry and materials button in Octane render Setup window.

Thanks,
Marek

Instead of the question mark, there should be shown the number of cores of the GPU.
I noticed you have a 980, and the developers are still working on coding for optimalization of the 900 serie.
Maybe that is the reason for the question mark. Anyway, that is not worrying is my guess.
At this moment Titan and 780 are the better choice, but probably soon the 900's will perform better :?:

Can you show printscreens.. I do not understand exactly what you are trying to say
"Selecting Object layers Mode (O)"?

Did you first export your scene from Archicad to ocs, and then open it in the standalone?
Maybe face_off will be able to investigate your scene if you are having crashes with it.
If you want, you can also PM me and let me take a look at your scene.

Can you pls email me the pla version of the scene that is crashing. Email to paul at physicalc-software dot com.

Thanks

We have to hard-code the number of shader processors per SMM (multiprocessor) since there is no way to query this information from the system. We have done this for compute model 5.0 (GTX 750 (Ti)), but forgot to add it for compute model 5.2 (GTX 970/980). It will be fixed in the next release which should also bring some speedups for those GPUs.

The good news is that this number is just for information purposes and not important for running the kernels.

That cursor doesn't show up on Prnt Scr, but looks like the icon picked with the red arrow.
I'm just not able to edit any texture imported with the OBJ file.

No such an extension exists as Save as option in AC 17, 18 Int and Pl versions.

Paul,
Can you pls email me the pla version of the scene that is crashing.
Are you sure about it? Pla is above 1 GB file size.
My guess is that it might be something with the reported by AC missing textures or the non Latin letters in textures names or their long names...
...to add it for compute model 5.2 (GTX 970/980). It will be fixed in the next release which should also bring some speedups for those GPUs.
Great!

Thanks guys,
Marek

Well...I made a big deal by picking the wrong icon!!!
Just learning, I need some mercy, guys!

Supposed to be Material picking mode...

Anyway, my dreams came true with this software.
Even with that big file it feels like watching your Brigade video.

LOL

I know what you are feeling. I am still having this feeling of joy from the start ;)
And then came the plugin on top of that.... Thanx to face_off ... He made it possible working with the Archicad plugin.
Mayor milestone :!:

Yeah, that guy is like The Oracle ;) for the Archicad users.
That joy can feel only people knowing suffering of the endless renderings in Maxwell or artificial results in Artlantis.

BTW
Friendly community here is another gain! ;)
