3ds max design 2014 freezes when opening the octane viewport

I have a scene with nearly a million polygons modeled with Rhion + grasshopper.
The objects in the scene have been broken down to three different obj files in rhino and imported as obj. The first obj file I didn't import it as one geometry because I wanted to work on the textures but the others are one object (roof structure and the city model). and most of the objects are frozen.
when I try to open the octane viewport, it completely freezes, although when I check with EVGA precision x, my GPU are working hard.
So I thought this was due to the vram size of my GPUs (2G) but when I try to render with Octane 2.06, it works.
I would still like to work within 3ds max (hence I bought the plugin recently) so that I can import cameras from rhino, have multiple viewports arranged and keyframe stuff as well as populate the scene and so forth.
Is there a way to check why max freezes when I open the octane view port? is it possible that its because there are too many objects in the scene? It is a pre-texture scene with just the geometry.
