Clear plastic cap distorts the metallic effect underneath...

Hi Paul

I have a clear cap with thickness that is sitting over a metallic spray pump top.

It's affecting the metallic effect quite differently than other areas not covered by the plastic. Would you have any recos on how to handle this?

I was using path tracing and pmc @ 4000 but each has a different result, not the one I'm looking for.

Thanks

can u post a screen?

are the outer faces of the cap and pump tangent to each other?

rayepsilon setting might help

Hi whersmy

Thanks for replying. See attached image.

Try to lowest possible ray epsilon (0.00001?).

Thanks Paul. I did reduce the Ray Epsilon to 0.00001 but didn't see much of a difference. I then proceeded to change the Reflection setting of the clear plastic lid from 0.8 to 0.2. Also, not sure if this helped but changed the index from 1.4 to 1.2. Looks like one of those changes worked to get closer to what I was trying to achieve but have to do some more testing at different angles.

are you using gamma 2/2.2? what camera are you using? i think that is key here

Perhaps the gamma of the hdr should be a bit higher

I'll have to check those things later today. Not quite sure as I'm still learning my way around Octane. Hopefully the game can help as I don't really want to sacrifice the shape and detail of the plastic lid ( which I think I'm doing)

Appreciate your help and will let you know results once I do some more tests

Thanks

That's "gamma" not "game"

;)

What is your refraction set to on the modo material.

Hello rrbarb, this material is from the octane library. I loaded in one of the clear plastic materials and added above the MODO material, so it would take precedence.

As for the gamma, it didn't really help that much.

I'll keep at it.

Thanks. Hope to have some new shots with solutions.
