Single mapping solution ?

Hi

I am new to Octane and am struggling with placing decals/mappings onto surfaces.
Have exported surface from C4D with 1 mapped decal which imported as a multiple 'tiled' mapping into Octane.

Could someone please post advice on best way to map single decal onto surface ?
Is there a way to position mapping onto surface accurately inside Octane?...and how ? :?

Many Thanks...be gentle ;)

your model needs UVs and the texture needs to be UV mapped to where you need it to be.

Thanks for quick response !
Have mapped onto surface within c4d as usual (with assigned UVW tag).
Am using the c4d (v11.5) plugin for export...still no mapped decal in Octane...missing something obvious ?

inside of C4D is this their mapping solution or is it true UV mapping?

Good question :? ...this is the only way to map onto surfaces within c4d...as far as I know...switching off 'tiled' surface option allows you to apply single, positionable graphic 'decal'.
The problem is that the mapping is always transfered to Octane as a 'tiled' map...not a single decal...which I need.
Have tried mapping within Octane but have the same problem...cannot find a way of mapping and positioning a single graphic element...it is always 'tiled'.
Have seen many examples of Octane renderings with single 'decal' or map applied to surfaces but suspect other programs have been used for the export.
Have downloaded 'Riptide' obj export plugin for C4D...see if that works !???
Also going to try 'baking' the texture in C4D...see if that works !??

Blender has great UV tools and tutorial videos available.

In C4D you have to use Bodypaint 3D to define the UVs. Set the interface to "BP UV Edit".

Thanks Perdition,

Never used Bodypaint...could you please post a really short run-through of the simplest way to do that ?..got a hot deadline !! :|

Really appreciated ! :)

It's not possible for you saving a polygonal selection and assign a different material for that selection? It works pretty well with the cinema exporter.
