I'm not sure about performance but consider that you'll need 3 free molex connections to power up those risers.

Don't even think of connecting high speed GPU via not powered riser - it will just leave you with faults.

hello mate, i saw in a diferente topic you said that, for exemple the GTX 590, would not work correctly with non powered risers.

My question is, in a MB like mine Asus WS Revolution, i can powerup the MB with a molex, that could allow me to use non powered risers in my gtx590?
I bought some from ebay( waiting for them) they are pci-e x16, not x1, and not powered because a lot of web search let me to belive that in a good powered MB, we would be ok.

I´m wondering if i may be putting my MB as risk if i test the sistem withou powered risers....

What do you think?

cheers

As far as I know there is no much risk. After you start render you'll just have a system crash (blue screen of death in case you use Windows) :)

If it comes to powering MB not to power up risers - simply: I don't know.

I'm using modular PSU and have a separate 4 X molex cable which I use for risers. And I use 1X USB risers. All work just perfectly.

Risers are cheap.
So just get 2 more and test the performance.

You'll bring some new knowledge to the forum because I think nobody did it before :)

If your riser is not powered up and is working - that's fine. But don't consider it a rule. It's however a lot healthier connection when it's powered up.

cheers!

In my case - non powered riser worked on a 580... but none of the 590 gtx
- I got 3 590s and powered risers work great.

- maybe a single 590 might work, but it never did in my case - and mainly the only "bug" was, that my system didnt recognize the GPU - it was mentioned in several posts that you are way better off using powered risers - so people, at least browse for keywords, you just might get a better response

Hello, I am now on vacation, when I return I will do the tests ... I wanted to ask for information: What is the best material to make a case to avoid static discharge? wood plexiglass?

Just to let you guys know that non powered risers dont work in GTX590, maybe with other GPUs work, but not with the highpower eater GTX590.

Just tested 16x to 16x risers (non powered) and Windows just goes blue.

To test it harder i pluged the extra molex power cable to the MB, but still the blue screen.

Retested with the gtx connected directly to MB, all runs ok. So nonpowered cables to GTX590 its a NO.

I will test it with the USB x1 powered cables to see how it goes. Just waiting for them to arrive.

Cheers
