Hi all,
is there a way to override the max depth setting of 32 in PMC mode?
cheers,
Steve

Sorry to bump, but really keen to solve this.
In the maya plugin, the depth can be set above 32 but when I export to standalone the depth gets capped.
cheers.

When you're above 12 I doubt you will see any difference anyway.

Hi there,
when rendering glass using CAD data, there is a noticeable difference.
Certain parts render dark, due to the complexity of the CAD.
cheers,
Steve

Trying to be clever, by putting an Int Value of 128 in to spec depth slot
The Kernel caps the value back to 32.
Is there a way in the script editor to override the depth value?

I think certain parts render black because some of the normals in the CAD data are flipped. I run into this problem a lot with CAD data. normals and topology are always a mess.

You're probably right in some cases.
However, in this case there aren't any issues with the normals - I've rendered this CAD in Maxwell (which has no depth max) and there are no black areas.
All I'm after is the same settings from Octane for Maya, where there isn't a depth cap.
Cheers.

Can you show an image of the rendering with dark parts on the glass to make sure there isn't something else causing the problem?

Unfortunately not with the CAD I'm working on at the moment.
Sorry to bang on about this, but Octane for Maya does not have a cap on the depth, unlike Octane Standalone.
I'd just like an option to override the cap of 32 in Octane Standalone.
Cheers.

Do you see a difference if you render with path tracing with depth 32 vs. path tracing with a higher depth?
What kind of objects are showing the black patches? Are they complex glass objects or very shiny metal objects?
