IBL and groundshadows

Hi
I have a question, which I can't really google since I don't know the words for it.
I use IBL in rhino to illuminate my scene. It give me really good results, but I can't figure out how to add ground shadow, so that it looks like my object is standing on the ground, like in this examples:

They are done in Rhino, but with another external render engine.

The attachment is what I was able to make.
What do I have to do to achieve this? Searching for IBL + shadow, or HDRi doesn't help anymore.

Create a ground surface, like a flat plane (could be any surface however). Create a Diffuse material for that surface and enable Matte. That's it! Your ground surface should be completely transparent but create a shadow based off of the HDRI.

Any idea on how to make the IBL image "zoomable", so that it belongs more to the object and gives a realistic 3 dimensional look when you zoom in and turn around?

I'm afraid you're out of luck there! I don't think it's possible to zoom in on the IBL. However, there is a work around, if it's possible for you. I typically will use a lower res IBL for rendering to get the accurate lighting and reflections, then composite in a backplate of the IBL in a photo editing program. This is very easy to do but will require you to have either a high res IBL or backplates of the IBL. Hope that makes sense.

"Zooming" an IBL means you are effectively moving the mirrorball position at the point the image was taken, so it's not really easily possible. However you can make small adjustments by scaling the IBL Image transform.
