SSS material with octane?

Hi,

I'm trying to create a material that looks like a solid piece latex rubber and I'm struggling to get the right look for it.

It made me realise that I'm not quite sure how to set up an SSS node network so was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction?

So far I've used a spec material with a fair bit of noise and used a material mixer to blend with a diffuse material so as to make the latex look less transparent but still have the feeling of transpaency/translucency towards the edges...this has only got me so far and it's not looking quite right.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Dont have octane in front of me. But I think you need to use the Medium input of a diffuse material. There's a Scatter node that you plug into it. Mess with the Absorbtion, and Scatter settings along with the scale.

Best bet is find a SSS material you like in the Standalone app, and then try to copy over the node settings from that.

You have a example scene in the plugin .zip file "dragon_sss" with a very basic setup for a SSS surface.

Yeh, or Jaun's idea would work too :)
