Problems with Dirt Texture

I'm having a nightmare with the Dirt Texture.

I'm trying to use it in Invert Normal mode so that I can simulate chipped paint at the edge of an object. I can do it easily on some objects, but there are two problems.

In thin objects, it seems to pick up the other side of the object, as can be seen on the flat part of this test object (the box on the top is exactly what I want it to do).

If I really reduce the radius I can almost get it to work, but then the effect is not pronounced enough on the box.

Also, as you can see, it picks up the edges of the rounded corner which is obviously not disirable.

I use it to mix with a procedural and then to mix materials like the following, but you can see the effect is ruined by the flat bit.

Help, as at the moment, this is yet another limitation of the nodes which is driving me nuts.

Oh, I'm using Lightwave, but have exported it into Standalone, and the problem is the same there.

Show your dirt settings.

What I see is that your range of application isn't large enough for what you want.

Dont think I've explained myself as the settings don't matter. The flat bit and the box are always completely different.

Hopefully, this image explains both problems better.

Meant to add the object. This is the ocs and a zip of the lw object.

I guess I'm still not clear, Gordon,
I get this, with a very green pic for the environment texture.

Is that just the object I attached? You haven't changed the surface setting for the bit under the box? Why does it look like with just a white texture environment?

And you haven't changed the nodes for the bottom bit?

What version of the plugin and LW are you using?

That looks nothing like what I've got.

11.6.2 for lw
1.31.2 for the Octane API Build.
PC, i7, Titan of old.

Oh, and no, no changes that deviate from yours in a significant way.

I'm at the gym at the Monet, but if I package up a scene can you try it to see if we get the same results? Just in case I have some weird problem.
