Texture maps with SSS

Hi, Is it possible to use texture maps with SSS? I have a U/V'd, painted head that loads fine into Octane but I'd like to know if I can still use SSS, and if so, how? Also, I think I read somewhere that for SSS to work it needs a closed mesh - is this true? Please could someone post a typical node setup for this? Thanks.
