Lighting Noob Question

So I get the concept of adding bump/normal maps to the diffuse to add extra realism but my question is to do with specular maps:

Is it the case that since Octane is a physically correct renderer that you don't need specular maps? i.e. the correct index of refraction, transmission etc will render the specular map moot?
