Exporting

Hi guys! Have you any ideas with exporting geometry to the obj. format from sketchup? SketchUp cant do it with my model, TIGs plugin do it too slow (1.5 hours) (I tried to do it by parts, but even one indivisible part exports 0.5 hour).

Purge your file, it will probably solve the problem

Windows -> model info -> statistics -> purge unsed

or divide your modeling into several files and assembles the octane in:

add node -> geometry -> GeometryGroup and connects all

To add files with materials opens octane files and copy and paste into a new file octane.

good luck

Tank you for your answer, but I use all you advised me. I thought that there can be more quicker way to do it.

What is this indivisible part? Pass more details. The way of using the geometry group is the most efficient.

If this issue is actual, try exporting using Octane plugin for Sketchup, it's blazing fast.

Fuzzybro,

Could you give some approximate benchmarks of how fast it is compare to e.g. TIG's exporter? Let's assume I have a 100MB skp. file - how long does it take to export it via the new plugin?

Export to .ocs works only if OctaneViewport is opened. Exporting Sketchup scene to octane can take a while depending on a scene complexity, 100MB will take 10 secs to 1-2 mins. When the OctaneViewport is opened exporting to .ocs will be blazing fast (couple of seconds).

I can try to export your scene and track results is you'd like

Does the new plugin create an ocs with objs? Is it possible to open it in standalone only?

Yes it is =) Fuzzy just answered that in other thread http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 5&start=30 cool isn't it? =)

Yup, it creates a pack of all resources from the scene: an .ocs, an .obj file per mesh and exports all used textures.
The thing is that you must be careful with exporting SU scene as a bunch of components and instances. Each instance will be exported as a separate object which would be hard to configure in standalone. For that cases I recommend Exploding SU scene to a single mesh and then doing the export.
