Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new version of OctaneRender™ for Maya®
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2013.5 / 32-bit & 64-bit on MS Windows operating systems.

Notes regarding features/functionality

OctaneRender™ for Maya® implements almost full functionality of OctaneRender™ standalone inside Maya®. Materials from the Live DB are currently not available.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine
.

HOW TO PURCHASE LICENSES

Go to our online shop here: http://render.otoy.com/shop/

If you do not own an OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition License yet:
You can purchase both the OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition and the OctaneRender™ for Maya® Edition as a reduced price bundle, purchase the bundle priced at 279€

If you already own one or more OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition licenses you want to pair the plugin with:
Purchase an "OctaneRender™ for Maya® Beta License" priced at 99€

You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for Maya® licenses,
just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.

OCTANELIVE

Just like OctaneRender™ Standalone, the Maya® plugin product also needs an additional OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface panel in Maya, and is covered in the included PDF manual.
It can only be done after an OctaneRender™ Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.

CHANGES AND FIXES SINCE LAST RELEASE:
  • Fixed the crashes of scenes having image textures.
  • Added "soft thresholds" to some post-processor values...

Thanks for the quick turnarounds, JimStar. However, I'm able to enter hypershade now without an instant crash, but scrolling up and down through my materials after working in the scene for a minute or so still causes crashes. Instead of a Fatal error message, it immediately goes to the Windows 7 message "Maya 2013 has stopped working", and I get an Autodesk crash report prompt. It might just be because this scene has seen several revisions of the Octane for Maya plugin but it seems highly and randomly volatile...

Hi, it looks like the crashes I get with some scenes.

I already talked about this to Jimstar (post: "wierd Maya crashes")

If you get a solution or a turnaround, tell me.

Fred

Yes the hypershade is still causing crashes for me too. Sorry hardly ever go to the hypershade anymore so didn't notice, the node editor doesn't seem to cause crashes. I've attached a crash dump.

Something strange goes here... Regarding your crashes...
As there is no Octane plugin module in the callstack of your crash-dump.
And so far I can't reproduce the crashes with the scene which ciboulot gave me - all works smoothly on my machine with 690 card. Hypershader opens, material previews are shown in them, IPR render works without crashes too... I'm playing with this scene back and forth - no crashes...:?
Can you give me your scene which crashes on your machine, with some description "what should I exactly do to reproduce it"? Perhaps I will be able to reproduce the crashes with your scene...

Hi JimStar,

I'm away from my workstation for the day but will have a look over the weekend and test some more to see if I can provide you with more info. I'll also try and get you a scene where it happens. It may not be the one that caused the crash dump i sent though due to size and some rights controlled models.

Thanks for report!
It seems that the difference is in hardware or in the scene itself... The reason why on my machine the same scene does not crash - may be due to this scene is not full, it lacks some of textures and plugins which may cause this crash... I've tried to change the texture paths of ciboulot's scene to my texture files - but so far can't get a crash...
