please use this thread to post if the plugin crashes under certain circumstances;
this post will be extended to cover known problems...
- crash on loading a scene, that was saved with octane contents already
loading stuff into daz studio and to build up the octane data is one of the more critical parts currently, since it depends on timing related code that might give varying results depending on machine speed and scene complexity. if you experience such a crash, just trying to load the scene again might help.
the plugin creates backups of its own data on every save, so even if everything fails, there is a good chance to recover from crashing scenes in updated plugin vesions. if you happen to see such a thing, please provide - if possible - a crash dump that usually can be saved with the bug reporting tool of daz studio. please do not send that to daz 3d, as they won't have a clue what to do with it. the crash report contains the log file and a stack dump, but no scene content; so, if possible, please also attach the scene file that lead to a crash.
currently fastest way to provide those infos is sending me a pm here.
- immediate crash if deleting a V4 figure which uses "point at" onto a camera.
this is imo caused due to a bug in daz studio (as of 4.5.1.56) - a workaround should be possible and will be provided in one of the next updates. currently, if you have such a scene already you plan to use with octane, it is recommended to load it first having the plugin deactivated, toggle the "point at" to "off" and re-save it, than you can turn on the plugin again and should have no problem if you try to delete that figure.

I had a crash after changing my environment to default HDR & browsing and testing thru the available options. DAZ let me write a zipped report but lost all my scene. At least I could screencapture my image which I'm enclosing (and painting black pants to the human character for modesty). Only one Genesis Freak 5, one Poser Sixus creature and Flipmode desert sands environment. I was trying to find out how to change my sky since Flipmode's dome wouldn't render. If there is a place I can upload the crash report I'll be happy to do it.
Edited to post that I've read in the forum that I need to send report to support[at]octanerender[dot]com, so report sent.

thanks for the info. had you already changed the nodetype of the texture pin once before this happened?

Hi Gerald
So finally i was able to install and activate the plugin. so far so good.
when i loaded my first scene (didnt touch octane at all yet) DAZ crashed.
I then rebooted the computer and restarted daz. i tried to open the octane window now without a scene (well, the default scene with the genesis figure). I could go to "windows / Octane" as often as i would, no octane window opened up.
What could that be? do i have to reinstall the whole plugin again? Im not quite shure where i should start nailing down the problem.
Thanks for the help. I cant wait to finally get my first renders in daz Studio!
Kind Regards
Beat

hi beat! could you successfully activate the license? and please, if you manage to save the crash dump, send me a pm and attach it, or open the daz log (from help > troubleshooting > view log) and copy & paste the content to the pm; you can try to re-install the plugin, does not hurt, but it does not sound like that will solve the problem right away... 'am waiting to look into it!

Honestly, I don't remember.

I was going thru the options and I know one crashed it but don't remember which one.

well, it is not completely unlikely that it happens again; so my smiley would also be this one:

Had a crash loading a large scene (sadly forgot to save the crash data) in DS 4.1.?.? 64-bit, from a 'cold start' of DS. Tried a trick that I have found works sometimes, in creating a dummy scene (loaded a basic Genesis), then loaded the scene again, and got another crash (different this time, but did save the crash data from DS). In the meantime, without doing much else the scene has now loaded! In fact just re-loaded it and it, again, loads without issue. Would you be interested in the crash data?

would be useful, yes. i'm currently investigating the possible source of this issue, and having a bunch of crash data would help to identify, if these load crashes do all have the same cause (what i tend to believe). btw, are you loading your scenes from the ssd?
[edit]: and even more interesting: are your content folders on the ssd?
