White Kitchen... and bottles of wine !

Hi all !
Here's my latest work.
- Modelled 100% by me using Blender 2.64a
- PathTracing (PMC would have taken longer to render)
- HDRI environment
- 16000 samples/2 hours for each pic (except for the one with the bottles, which I stopped after 13000)
I think I'm getting closer to photorealism (for those who have followed my works so far

)
Following tutorials about how to use a reflex camera greatly helped me.
(setting up the ISO / f-Stop/ etc)
I still have loads to learn with photography and Octane, so any advice is welcome.
Cheers !

Hey, great work
Just to nit-pick... I think that the bottles would benifit from a bit of falloff relfection, the fresnel effect.

I like a lot madco!
great exercise of modelling, texturing, shading and illumination....absolutely a great result!
The only thing that I don't like too much is the choise of putting a "tiled" material for the top part of the kitchen and it's reflectivity/roughness (it looks like a linoleum material and not as it was stone).
As for the illumination did you used only an HDRI?, no other light in the scene?, no walls hided?.
Can you suggest me some good tutorial on how to use a reflex camera?, I have the same needs as you (i'm an accountant that falled in love with te 3D graphics so no background about it

)
Cheers, Paolo

Wow, many thanks for your kind replies

How do you set this up Alex, and what effect does this produce ?

I agree...

I had little time, so I used an image I already had in my library. Next time I'll get one from CG Textures.

Indeed there's not only a HDRI map

below is a screenshot of my scene.
I struggled for a long time with lighting up my interior scenes, until some people in the Octane forums gave me some tips.

At the end of it, it's a matter of reproducing a real photographic setup scene, like one you would have in real life - photographers often use not only a flash-light with their camera, but also other things like light "umbrellas" or light "planes" so they can get their lighting right.

I'm french so I just typed
"Tutoriel utilisation appareil photo reflex" (i.e "Using a reflex camera tutorial") in Google and it came up with a bunch of websites...
Thanks again and keep posting comments & advice,
Cheers

Really great renders. I love the spices. Mind you, the one with the top removed appears to have removed the whole of the top of the jar. There should be more to the jar. i.e. the threaded top.

The close ups are super.
I would only bring the camera a little bit closer with the first shot and turn it slightly.
The materials and lighting are setup perfectly.
Really good work.

Hi guys,
Many thanks (again) for your kind replies and comments.

=> no problem Paolo, I've been able to improve my skills thanks to many people in the Octane Forum, so it's quite normal to give some in return

Indeed that's one of the defects present in this scene !!!
If you look closely at the blinds there's also a problem : I forgot to model the strings that should hang the "slates" and keep them together.
(...feeling totally dumb right now...)

Hi everyone,
I've been asked to post my settings and any tips I could share regarding these images.
Unfortunately I can't post the original .blend and .ocs files as asked, but you'll find screenshots of my settings below.
I didn't add the PathTracing settings, as I just left them to default (except that I restricted the render maxSamples to 16000)
Regarding Blender, it's just the usual Modelling / UV Mapping stuff really...
The only basic "tip" I could share is : in Blender viewport put a background reference picture of the objects you're modeling, so you can match reality as closely as possible.
On top of that, these pictures will provide you with the colors/images/stickers you'll apply onto your objects.
However, many people in the Octane forum do a far better job than I do, so I invite you to contact them too for tips n' tricks
I hope this helps, and feel free to ask for more info if needed.
Cheers,
M.

Thanks a lot for share your settings Madcoo
...every little information that everyone of us can find in the forum (thanks to people like you), is like a tile that one day could permit us to solve the puzzle of acheaving a great render
