Sun + Sky + Transparency

I'm sure I've read it somewhere but since you can't have an environment + sun at the same time, what is the best way to set up a sun but also a sky background as you would with an hdri?
Also how do I render an image lit by the sun but the sky transparent?

thanks

If you use daylight object you can't use any other environment.
You can try to use regular octane light instead of a daylight.

As I've answered in another post, you can use a powerfull white HDRI on a single poly to light your scene from a long distance (here are some pic made quickly just to show that was possible)

I will try this as well

but the question remains, how do other people have sun + sky background then? I was sure I had seen it... will have to check the galleries again.

Radiance mentioned the trick to mix a sun + HDRI was to use a plane or low poly sphere that would act as the sun with a strong emission material. Make sure to place this far away from your scene. You can now load a HDRI and use these together.

ok tried hdri set as the environment mat and used a one poly square with 50,000 power :) work very well, nice ambiance and reflections from the hdri as well as the background image and sun like lighting and shadows from the light plane

wish I could move it around as easily as the sun :)

did you try with a placement node ?
