Hi Aoktar, it was the C4D texture manager causing the problem the Octane version is fine. I think I got a bit carried away with the layout.

Spoke to soon, it is the same problem with the Octane texture manager as well

it happens with any of our room set scenes

the scenes load instantly without the texture managers but fail to load with them docked in the layout

C4D version? It doesn't crash on me with R19

R20 - does not always crash but it is unresponsive for a very long time

Are you forcing it to crash without waiting the completion of update process? If you do, it will crash. Are you sure it's specific to octane scenes? Did you check with c4d scenes with a lot of textures?
It may take much time if you have lot of texture search paths in preferences. Even if paths are on network or external devices

I did explain that without the texture managers that the scenes open instantly, but with the managers docked they take forever or crash. We only have C4D octane scenes not standard C4D scenes, I don't see how this is relevant though, it all worked fine in R4.01. Thank you for looking into this though, it is not much of a hindrance now we know what it is.
