Hi Bendbox ...
Thanks for answering. I think you are suggesting that I change the color post rendering? Maybe using Photoshop or the like?
I am hoping to modify the color within Octane ... when I change my material settings the Icon changes but it does not translate to the render stage. I have been trying the settings using RGB mode but it does nothing except the icon ...
If I change back to the default mode of greyscale I get an error message asking me to restart Octane.
cheers,
eric

Eric - what version of the plugin are you using pls? What is the exact error msg you are getting asking you to restart Octane? Can you post a screenshot of your brick material pls?
Paul

Hi Paul ..
I am attaching the error messages. This happens when I choose RGB Color for Power and Specular then change to another choice and try to change back.
I tried to do a screen shot of my materials and the settings using SnagIt but it just whites out my whole second monitor and won't copy the image. As I make changes to this brick the only thing I can really change is the scale. Even though the icon changes color the actual image does not.
Unfortunately there is no red brick in the online data base.
cheers,
eric

Hi Paul
I forgot to mention ... I was using 16 024 when I started and then tried 16 025.
Same result with both
Happy New Year,
eric

Hi Eric
With that error message - I cannot reproduce it. Can you pls give me the exact steps you are taking to get it? (ie. Start Rhino, new scene, open Material panel, create new material......etc).
Thanks
Paul

Trying again ... my last message did not go through ... I tried to send the .3dm file and I guess it was too much.
I noticed that the last time I sent the error messages that I duplicated and did not send the second one ... here they are again.
So ..
Open Rhino ... Select a material from the material window ... in this case 'brick' downloaded from the live db. Set it up so that 'diffusion/power', 'diffusion/specular' and 'bump/power' are all set to RGB color (with the color being an orange red brick color) .. looks good in the icon but renders brown.
Change 'diffusion/power' to greyscale color ... changes Icon to grey but renders brown. Change back and forth with all selections (usually this gets the error message but not this time) ... Change 'diffusion/power' to 'dirt texture' ... error message appears.
Paul ... I can send you the .3dm file but will have to use 'YouSendIt' and would like an email address if you want the file.
cheers,
eric
(edit)
Maybe I have found the source of the problem. I am using a plug-in for Rhino called VisualARQ and it works with meshes that are not standard ones in Rhino but they are supposedly compatible. When I extended these walls up to meet the roof an offset appeared and the extension was set back from the face of the wall below ... it seemed unfixable so I created a surface and extruded it out to the original wall face (using standard Rhino tools. Then I ran a quick Octane render and the new solid extrusion rendered in the proper color as shown in the material icon. So there is an incompatible situation between VisualARQ objects and Octane. This does not bode well for VisualARQ in my book. It seems I won't be able to use it.
cheers,
eric

Hi Eric
I was unable to get the errors you have been getting using the workflow you posted. It was unclear if you have the Viewport open or not (I assume NOT, since you did not mention it).
I was however able to get an error if opening the Viewport and then editing a material that was NOT used in the scene - and I will fix this.
The icon does not translate to how the material will render in Octane. Pls see the plugin release 2.16.0.24 release notes as follows:
- KNOWN ISSUE: Octane Material thunbnails are based on the Rhino preview version of the material, and not the actual Octane material. This will be rectified in the next release of Rhino.
So this is a Rhino issue, not a plugin issue. In summary - don't use the Material Preview ball in the Rhino Material panel - it is broken.
Set it up so that 'diffusion/power', 'diffusion/specular' and 'bump/power' are all set to RGB color (with the color being an orange red brick color) .. looks good in the icon but renders brown.
Diffuse->Power is an "amount" (ie. 0 to 1), not a color, so changing it to an RGB Color will not help you. Same with Bump->Power.
I hope that helps.
Paul

I have refreshed the installers at the top of this thread with:
2.16.0.26
- Fixed issue where changing the node type of a material which is not used in the scene when the viewport is open would raise an error
I also found that Octane Material previews were also working correctly with this version - I would be interested to here other users findings on this.

Hi Eric,
I misunderstood what was going on. I thought you were trying to change the brick color via method other than texture mapping, sorry for any confusion. Hopefully the latest build that Paul posted corrects your issues.
