I've noticed that while rendering hair children Octane plugin uses the “Display” value instead of the “Render” value.

After instalation the Blender Octane version (Win 8.1) I got a prompt:

The program can't start because VCOMP12.DLL is missing ....

Any idea?

Yes, Visual C library missing. Can be found at various places in this forum. Blender depends on it.

Wrong. It can be rendered if you set the mesh type properly. Trying to use "global" mesh for heavyly scattered geometry is wrong way.;)
OK thanks it works. I was wrong, too excited, and too speed ^^. Nice to sse that we can assign a different material to parent object and hair and fur! How does it work? Does it render strands, or geometry type ??

Hmm. Could you please elaborate on how you got hair to work? I've tried everything I can think of. So how can I not use "global" mesh scatter?

Hi, hair should work out of the box, Global or Scatter is more a setting to influence memory .

Cheers, mib

Hm, when I render, it renders ... but I get no image .... viewport stays black....

.....FIX: Change the Distance value from camera.
This worked for me too, thanks! But is there a recommend number to set or will anything higher than the default 0 do without causing issues elsewhere?

Also, are we expected to change this setting every time we create a new file or is this a bug that will be fixed in a new release?
