OpenCL support is never going to happen, Otoy instead works on a compiler to directly use the octane Cuda code on AMD GPU and on other plateform.
Otoy already showed a video of Octane working with a AMD card but aparently was just a prototype.
From the GTC presentation we may think it could be ready eventually after summer, but you can't trust this date more than a rumor.

Thanks from the response. So you mean to say that Octane will never have 'native' OpenCL support, but there's a workaround in process for AMD GPUs? If so, that's great news!

Yes

As you saw in the video, Octane really is working on AMD cards without us having to do an OpenCL port . But we are running into driver issues that we need to see fixed by the vendor before we release this to users. We also have to do a solid round of performance tuning, same we are about to do on Pascal GPUs.

I'm not experiencing darker images at all. Yesterday I rendered images in version 2 and today rendered the same scene in version 3, and the images look the same. I mean exactly the same.
