As a community, We need to get these ideas implemented so that doesnt happen. When I first bought octane it was FOR that reason, FOR the innovation. Lets make Octane better.

I love this but the best way to push for features is in the feature request system. We'll be looking to this to help prioritize V4 features especially for requests that we couldn't put into V3 (without breaking way too much in the core engine, that's what major updates are meant for!)

True, but how long must we wait if its taken almost a year to just get OSL :/ and soon denoiser.

Everyone else doing these in 1/4th the time

Sometimes things are slow, sometimes fast. Last 4 months and beyond are in fast lane.

Aoktar does an incredible job, without him Octane wouldn't be as successful or have penetrated the market in the way it has. I really want to stay with Octane, but realistically as soon as Redshift has post effects and tone mapping in camera I'm switching.

From the customer side it looks like the Octane core team (not plugin devs) aren't focussing resources on the engine and more focussed on Jules' grand vision, which is great, but clearly not what a lot of people want right now. This may not be the case, but Otoy's communication with customers has never been it's strong point, and you have a solid track record of over promising and under delivering. It's really frustrating. This isn't really a sustainable MO now that you have serious competition.

I agree about the over promising under delivering part, though things are looking more positive as of late. so kudus there. and yes I would like to stick with octane as my main renderer but the burden of proof is on the OTOY team, we want to see basic requests implemented and not just teased. as for Ahmet, what can I say, he is a hero.

Best,
Guy

Hi Studio21,
Which "over promising under delivering part" are you talking about?
What are your personal "basic requests implemented"?
In the last seven years, if I would have had a dollar for each time I have read about a missing feature in Octanerender, that is impossible to live without, I would have been already a billionair.
Happy Rendering,
ciao beppe

The call to leave Octane for greener pastures means leaving what you know for something you must learn anew, at least the tiny details that make great renders. Apparently, there are those so conversant with renderers that they can change easily but for me , there are far too many neurons to rearrange for me to leave what I know for something that may offer a better solution to a specific problem but is otherwise giving the same render solution expected by all. I very much appreciate the value added by Ahmet.

@beppe im mainly referring to meeting roadmap promises on schedule. like I said, its getting better and hopefully will continue this way :)

as for features, take a look at the feature requests section where light linking is at the top by a good margin. a very basic production feature that has been requested for years.

In any case, love octane and want it to succeed. i dont want to go to other options if possible :)

Peace,
Guy

+1

Same for me. I don't want to restart my learning curve again every couple years just to discover that other render solutions aren't perfect, too ...
I was with Octane from the early beginning and since Ahmet is developing the C4D-plugin it is my prefered render solution. Thank you for doing so well!
