It was a lesson learned the hard way myself. That option works fine in the live viewer, but not in the picture viewer. That threw me off for a long time. :)

Question rgd. HDRI vs. daylight:

Why isn't it possible to render daylight and HDRI at the same time? As soon as I switch daylight on to get nice sun casted shadows the HDRI environment dissapears. But without the daylight no shadows are invisible.

One environment obscures the other.

have you tried turning up the power on your HDRI?

Yes - I did. See example. Power was cranked up to 9. The HDRI nearly dissapears in the sky, but the shadows are soft and subtle instead of harsh and deep like in sunny conditions.

The water looks like a plastic foil. Why can octane render use not the water shader of C4D? He looks just real.

Aoktar,

any hints regarding my shadow/environment issue?

Even a workaround using a simple zylinder with a panorama image as a backdrop is not working out because the zylinder casts shadow into the scene even if I exclude it from the daylight source.

Thanks - Ron

You have the right idea of what to do. You can try using 1.10 and obscure the shadow from the cylinder.

You really mean me to go back to version 1.10 to make this possible? Don't understand why this 'feature' was in 1.10 but is missing in 1.20.

In architectural visualisation this kind of setup is common. Isn't this an issue for other Octane users?
