Wanted to give this a try with the MacBook Pro 13" M1 and installed standalone and plugin (both Enterprise) just like I used to:

Plugin is not even loading with R23. C4D starts fine, but without loading the plugin or giving any errors. Like the plugin wasn't even there.

On the other hand R22 is giving Gatekeeper errors on startup, which I was able to override in macOS system settings. Then C4D is crashing promptly on startup:

Code: Select all

Application Specific Information:
/Applications/Maxon Cinema 4D R22/plugins/OctaneX_Enterprise_PR7_BigSur/liboctane.dylib
abort() called
How is this supposed to be working?
Am I getting something wrong?
Standalone is opening fine.

Hi Beppe,

yes, crazy. We were so surprised. And yes, of course standalone works the same as plugin. Performance not like a Nvidia RTX , but hey we are getting 20 Ms/sec, so ok to use for light stuff and workable. Obviously more a Video ram limitation than anything else, but again for light scenes and small poly count totally workable. The tone mapping is also working perfect if just one is enabled (Funny enough in Standalone it works with both cards set for tone mapping, so it might be a plugin problem. Anyway, super happy that we can use our "trashcan" mac for something :-)

Best,

Martin

Hi Martin,
very nice, thanks for sharing :D

Please download the simple example scenes package:
http://render.otoy.com/downloads/Octane ... oSuite.zip

Then open in Standalone PR7 the chess_set_procedural.ocs scene, then click on the Render Target PT node, and share a screenshot, here is the result of my AMD Radeon Pro 575 4GB:

Hi Beppe,

Nice, can't believe your iMac is also able to get a good workout :-)
Here is the image of the chess scene. Funny enough exactly the same specs as your iMac - which makes sense since the firepro D500 shows pretty much half the performance as your 575, but has two of them.

Gonna run it on my 16" MacBook pro later tonight. I send you a screenshot of that one as well, lets se what that one can do

Best,

Martin

Hello,

just for the fun of it, I ran the chess sczene in octane standalone on a mac mini 2018, i7-6core, under Big Sur, whith 1000samples.
Took quite a while longer than on the iMac lol, but i works with the intel graphics.
The c4d plugin is also working in big sur intel.

Otherwise, on my M1 mini 2020, standalone works, but I can't get the c4d plugin for R23 running, it just doesn't load at all.

Hi Bepe,

thanks for the graph, thats really helpful. I finally had time to run the test on our 16" MacBook Pro and crazy enough it is faster than our MacPro :-)
But I guess it makes sense, since even the mobile version of the Radeon Pro 5300M is faster than the old and ailing D500.

Here is a screenshot of the test.

Best,

Martin
