Displacement: When i try to plug in displacement, I get 'Render Failure!!!' — C4D doesn't crash, but I have to restart it in order to get Octane working again. Even if i unplug the displacement.
The material texture preview outputs a glitchy image that changes every time i try (Screenshot attached)
I've tried a couple of approaches and every time i load the displacement, Octane starts running really slow. As far as I can tell it finally crashes when i scale the texture down with the transform node.
The displacement map is a 3K 8bit png at 2.2mb.

I've attached the log.

Other than that it works really great! Thanks!
Export your scene as orbx from Live Viewer export menu and please send in standalone topic. So otoy guys would check.

Hi,

I have made some comparison test between 3.08 and this new release but it seem much much slower :o

Same scene :
V 3.08 time 00:53
V4 RC2 time 02:56

Rendered both with pathtrace and without denoiser...
How it's possible?

MAC 10.12.6 + GTX 1080Ti - Driver NVIDIA 387.178
SLAVE Win 10 + 3x GTX 1080Ti + 2x GTX 980Ti - Driver NVIDIA 398.82
C4D R19.068

Thanks

hi aoktar

Why in some versions (the bottom of the live viewer) the number of polygons (Tri) is doubled?
For example version 3.8.3 or the same version 4
Or the same screenshot in Previous comment
and it takes more VRAM size

Thank you

Weezer wrote:This v4 release seems to be working really well on macOS. However I've got a weird effect when using a displacement map. It's a simple scene with a 4K 32-bit TIFF displacing a plane, but I get these artefacts along the edge. Any idea why? Map looks fine in Photoshop. I tried with 16-bit TIFF and PNG with the same result.

Hi Weezer, I'ts not a bug of plugin or engine, the dispalcement map probably is not tiled, this cause problems on borders, images with different size from standard 1024/2048/4096etc get scaled and border pixels get interpolated with the other side of the image, also the displacement map can be blurred by the filter in displace node if enabled, this result in spikes on the edge on not tiled textures.
To avoid the problem set the displace map in mirror border mode, or project the texture to the plane in flat mode in c4d mat tag, enlarging a little the projection, so the border of the image are not rendered

Hi!

There seems to be a bug with using a C4D gradient. When I change the gradient it doesn't update correctly in the IPR unless I restart it. I have keyframed the gradient to reveal other textures underneath but when I play it back it jumps all over the place.

Is this a bug with the current build or a general issue with a workaround?

Here's my scene file with assets:

Cheers :)

Just to show a quick example of what is happening, this is supposed to travel along the length of the cylinder but it's stopping not far from where it starts (it's a gif so you will have to click on it):

If I look at this in the IPR but I stop the IPR and restart it again, the projection ends up where I expect it to be.

Thanks.

Please disregard my last posts. This isn't a problem exclusively with v4 as I have the same issue with 3.08

I'll start a thread about this issue instead.

Thanks.

What about the image tiles node in v4 StandAlone?
Any chances having it by V4 Stabled?

I don't see this kinda problem between versions. Could you please try again with different scenes and provide a sample scene if you could reproduce it?

I'm testing on Standalones and I can see similar difference between V3 and V4. I cannot know because rendering that's done by the renderer. I'll ask to core dev. team
