Point is Paul... 90% of people work this way a s a workflow... I dare anyone to say they load figure, clothing, textures, expressions and any other life Octane changing stuff first off an say...man I got that scene right first time!!! Come on dare ya!
The other plugins do not have this issue - because they do not give you a list of all the geometry in the scene in the Material tab. So your gripe would be solved by having the plugin just displaying the materials for the current figure/prop in the Material tab (and not all figures/figures in the scene). I'm happy to make that change if the majority of users think it's a good idea - but if you think about it, you would then be spending a lot of time clicking props and figures in the Poser preview window in order to bring up their materials in the Materials tab.

Ok... so I'm missing something... I'll put it down to being a Kiwi... sorry to trouble you... I just sit back and but up with the no-change workflow of Octane.
Hey Paul... still love Octane, will always use it... just a bitch to use, ask any SSS shader add-on user.

Poser/Octane is about change... it's about experimentation... why can't Ii change bits out of a scene like I would Poser normally and then say "Update all" textures and geometry... it would give me the time to be creative instead of worrying about the 5-10 minutes pause between changes.

Paul! great addon to Poser... interface on this creative process... sucks... guess I have to put up with it... since I'm the only one that has this workflow.
Deane, my workflow is pretty much the same. If I have a lot of changes to make in poser, I usually just close out the setup window until I'm done, reopen to regen the scene in the plugin...so I can relate to this post.

Yeah... but what a bastard... can't we just have a button that says... "Update everything as if we closed the window and add-on and stared it again"
I guess all that is too long to fit on a button... but maybe 'FTFT" might do.

Also Paul, related to this, is there a "timeout" in the plugin to read materials? Seems lately when I load a prop, I get an error from the plugin (can't remember what is it off hand), but while the plugin 'sees' the geometry, the materials associated to it doesn't make it until I right click and select the reconvert option. Then all is good.

Did I miss something or doesn't the "scene lock" button stop your scene from updating until you hit it again?

There is one more consideration with regards to the plugin tracking new geometry
If you load something new you do get the materials, but it is very likely that you change the new new object (add new textures, scale, translate, morph) so you would need to refresh the scene to get the changes.
I usually close the plugin, make the changes and start it again - one reason is that I often change the texture maps and this avoids having to reconvert the materials.

I have a problem working with materials
First of all, I have plugin version 1.50.0.24

If I want to edit a material and switch to material mix, both materials are diffuse.
If I want to change one of them to something else, the following error shows up:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "C:\Program Files\Smith Micro\Poser Pro 2014\Runtime\Python\addons\OctaneRender for Poser\Node.py", line 1399, in <lambda>
File "C:\Program Files\Smith Micro\Poser Pro 2014\Runtime\Python\addons\OctaneRender for Poser\SetupForm.py", line 1765, in comboBoxNodeType_SelectedIndexChanged
File "C:\Program Files\Smith Micro\Poser Pro 2014\Runtime\Python\addons\OctaneRender for Poser\Node.py", line 452, in ChangeNodeType
File "C:\Program Files\Smith Micro\Poser Pro 2014\Runtime\Python\addons\OctaneRender for Poser\Node.py", line 389, in ReplaceNode
WindowsError: exception: access violation writing 0x0000007472617473

When this happened, I can't even import my old material setting
I have to close the viewport and then I can reconvert it, but really editing the material still doesn't work

Don't know why I have 1.50.0.24, when here the stable one is .22
When I updated, this one was the stable version posted.
