currently i can't do multiple modifier keys etc...
i need to finish this now otherwise 2.3 intermediate will never be ready...

so it's the same for Lightwave, Maya XSI and C4D if I'm not mistaken, well that's something we got common

:) I didn't even know that the 1 2 3 + LMB can be used but just tried it now it works ok, but anyway to confirm it alt + all mouse buttons is probably what most of us are using so use that

Anyway I use scroll for zooming and only sometimes alt + RMB for fine tuning if I have to, how about others.. but that's pretty close to what octane already has for navigation I caught on octanes controls pretty quickly - this customization just add more convenience so nice.

The only thing I can't figure out is what happens with the camera in octane, in c4d if you click on a object you rotate around it, and I figured that out pretty quickly, in octane it's like a weird trackball type rotation, I can't figure out what is the center point about which to navigate, and sometimes it's just nice and clean to move around..

I use C4D since 8 years.
It's true that the alt-key and mouse can move/turn/zoom editor camera.
But today is the day I heard from it - woow.

I thing most user use the keys 1,2,3 + Mouse.

I have start a poll at my home c4d forum: what is your navigation in c4d ?

Go ahead and offer it as yet another preset but don't call it XSI, actually, Softimage, otherwise you risk hurting the pride of thousands of Softimage native users. ;) The aforementioned key combination is just a quick option Softimage offers to Maya users at the expense of other Softimage native shortcuts. I, for one, wouldn't like to see a Softimage preset in Octane and after clicking it, realize it simply doesn't work because it was actually created for Maya users who happen to use Softimage...

LeoCortes is correct- please label this "Maya-SI transition keys" or something similar. Alt is used for a number of things in SI as the key set is HIGHLY context sensitive.

I use the standard Softimage S+L,M,R, so to be honest, if it's anything else I'm just going to use the default since the Maya option is just as foreign to me as the "real" SI set.

Personally, I'd rather see, if the S key can never be used, the standard SI version with the alt key replacing the S key as an option, or even shift.

In the end it's not such a huge deal as I have to bounce around several different applications anyway- and for me it's just easier to take the 30sec to re-learn the nav each time. Makes reading manuals and doing tutorials easier too as there is no "translate it to my key stroke option" that I have to do. Please, no "ViewCube" though!
