Maya
2011 does not support adding the attributes to already existing
classes of objects in its API. This feature appeared starting from Maya
2012. So, it is the reason the "mesh" and "subdiv" classes of objects do not create this attribute automatically when you create the object.
You have two opportunities:
- install the newer version of Maya (2012, 2013, or 2013.5)
- add this attribute to needed "mesh" or "subdiv" object manually (if it does not exist - by default the object will be "Global mesh"):
full name:
octGeomType
brief name:
ogt
values:
0 - Global mesh
1 - Scatter
2 - Movable proxy

EDIT: Okay, just checked. Now is the best time to upgrade Maya because starting Feb. 1st, the upgrading prices will jump up $730. ouch.

I'll update my Maya and report back.
EDIT 2: Yep. That fixed it. Maya 2011 was the issue. Thanks for all the help.

There is a "matte" attribute in the octane diffuse shader, but I can't get it to work neither...

Could this be the Shadow Matte Catcher feature? I'm not sure if it's been implemented yet.

In OctaneRender Standalone "matte" works without problems, in Maya don`t work for me...

I just took a look. I'm at a loss too as to what this feature actually is. If I knew what it was supposed to be doing then maybe I could troubleshoot it a bit more. If anyone figures it out. Be sure to post here. And if I figure it out. I'll be sure to post.

Yeah, that's what I think. Unless I hear otherwise from official sources.
