what means compiled with Octane 3.0
It means it's the plugin release corresponding to the Octane Standalone 3.0 alpha release.

IMPORTANT: For release 3.0.0.57, if you pause rendering, change an Octane setting, then continue rendering, the Viewport will freeze (and you will need to refresh the scene to restart the Viewport). This will hopefully be fixed by Otoy in the next release of the API.

Do we need octane 3 license to use/test v 3 in rhino?

Can someone tell me if there are some new cool features in v3, and if there is any performance boost (in octane for rhino) ?

You can use Octane 3 alpha and beta with an Octane 2 license.

I have refreshed the installer at the top of this thread with:

3.0.1.58
- Compiled with Octane 3.0 alpha 2
- The "Set the current Rhino renderer to OctaneRender in order to correctly render preview thumbnails." warning only pops up when selecting an Octane Material (and not other Material types) now
- Added Baking Camera. The Baking Group Id for each mesh can be set in the Node Properties window of each [Mesh] item in the Materials tree
- Manual updated with Octane 3 features. Pls see https://docs.otoy.com/Poser/?page_id=432 for details.

I have refreshed the installer at the top of thi thread with:

3.0.4.59
- Added "Camera Animation Only" when exporting a Bongo animation, to only animate the camera (and leave the geometry static) for fast exporting of Bongo fly-thrus
- Added "Cancel" dialog to the "Export Bongo Animation to OCS/ORBX" process
- Fixed issue where only 100 frames could be exported from a Bongo animation

- Fixed issue when exporting a camera only Bongo animation where an exception would be repeatedly raised on completion
- Fixed issue when exporting a camera only Bongo animation where perspective correction was not working correctly
