,by the way, adjust the spline offset or add and change a time field so that ripples only appear when a raindrop hits the surface.
You can also increase the ripple area somewhere in the displacement settings.

@lanklaf, there is spline offset and inner offsets, i played around with tthose but it didint change anything with timing, am I looking at the wrong spot?

I found an easier way, just place your sphere in a null object that has Y = 0,
then adjust the Y of the sphere until ripples only appear when sphere touches the surface:
Basically you just moving the center of the particle:
