I have refreshed the installer at the top of this thread with:
1.54.0.31
- Compiled against Octane 1.54 (incl. GTX 750 support)
- Changed SPECULAR_RATIO to 0.9 in OctaneDefaults.py (so a higher level of transparency will be needed to trigger the creation of an Octane Specular node
- Changed geometry update to update the existing Octane mesh node rather than re-creating a new mesh node. This means Auto-Refresh actions should be quicker, and exporting an animation to ABC format and loading into Octane Standalone will give vertex motion blur
- Added Subsampling combobox to the Viewport. Seems of limited use - so can remove it is not required
- Added Clay mode combobox to the Viewport
- Minor code fixups related to the up-coming Octane 2.0

so does the plug-in support a GTX 750. so more texture maps can be loaded

I was wondering why some meshes look faceted when rendered in Octane. I have double-checked the models in 3DSMAX, and they have been smoothed. Is there a setting for controlling smoothing angles in the Octane plugin?

As far as I am aware, they support the same number of textures as all the other 600/700 series cards.

Would it be possible to send me an example of one of these meshes pls, and I will take a look.

Before sending files, what kind of control do we have over smoothing with the plugin? Is there any way to compensate for faceted geometry without having to smooth it out in a 3D modeling program?

The plugin should use the normals from Poser - so whatever smoothing you have set in Poser should come through to the plugin. You can also override this in the Configuration. Notes from 1.23.0.11....
# - Added configuration option to force Octane to calculate the normals for the entire scene. This is partially implemented, and 0 = use Poser normals, and <> 0 = use the smoothing angle set in Octane Standalone

It's working OK for me. What Animation settings are you using (screenshot pls).
