Gabriel,
Thank you so much for the tip. That is exactly what I was wondering about.

The furniture tests are looking really good. I'm looking forward to seeing this one flushed out.

Hi all,
Finally getting back to this image after being sidetracked by other projects. I think it's close.
Rendered this at 4000 pixels, 32,000 samples PMC. Downsampled to 1280x720.
best,
O

I think this image looks absolutely fantastic. Very photo real, and the balance of light is really creating a nice mood.
Too bad it's got to go to 32,000 samples to clean up, but maybe the cloud services can help down the road.

Thank you sir!
That's a relief. A few versions back, I really hated this image because I blew out all the drama with fill lights. I relighted the image eliminating all IES lights, changing them all to IES Emitters thanks to the advice of Gabrielfx. On a side note, I had to increase the light samples of the IES emitters to really high values: 1024 - 2048 in some cases. FYI, this works in Max!
The render cloud will be nice. However, it would be nicer if I could use what I currently in the office - 13 Titans spread over 5 licenses. Unfortunately only one of my boards fits 3 cards. Hate being limited to day scenes!
I'm sure having to go to 32k samples has a LOT to do with my inexperience with Octane. Hopefully I can tame this magnificent beast.
More rooms coming.
best,
O

Thanks Tom,
Your favourite; blue and yellow =). Luckily found the sweet spot early in this one...I think.

these all look great!
re noise, one thing you could maybe try is do two renders? One just with the emitters and a black environment?
But a first one with a white environment or neutral hdri, that isn't low level lighting, but then darken it and colourise it in photoshop, and then add the render with just the emitters over, via Linear Dodge / Add ? I usually add a cool photo filter adjustment layer, set to multiply on the ambient render, I guess there are other ways, levels etc
Could also ham up the warmth of the emitters only render, if done separately..
Maybe not a go-er in this instance as you're having to do two renders rather than one, that said I expect a lot of the noise to go, because you're using brighter lighting, and then adjusting the gamma and exposure in photoshop later, assuming each render is saved as an exr, if this makes sense..?
Could maybe do the ambient pass with Direct Lighting though, to speed things up... get a cleaner base render...

NICE outdoor shot! And thank you for not over doing the depth of field, it's the perfect amount. I see overdone DOF all the time and it drives me nuts!
