It can be used too much, but I like this kind of effect when the DOF changes in a video and the focus turns from a far close object to a near object.
It's more of an artistic feature then pure realism.
Edit: Just realized you were talking about chromatic aboration, ya, that is easy to overdo

It is the same with vignetting. A good lens will show les vignetting but still we have this feature in octane and i think it is handy and use it a lot. No need for external post production.
I wouldn't mind to have a slider for CA (chromatic aberration) and edge blur in the imager node.
Yes, it is easy to overdo so this slider should be limited to a reduced effect (CA)

I agree, edge blur would a very nice and sophisticated effect, adding a subtle but powerful tool to get a more natural look.

That's exactly my point

The exposure controls are already separate in the Imager, are post process, and don't restart the render. My thought was to have the same type of fstop equivalent control for DOF, and see the camera controls themselves evolve into something more in line with the photo camera concept, like using a 50mm lens focal length @ f1.8 or a 200mm focal @ f11 instead of having to break out the math to calculate the equivalent form the existing camera FOV/Focal depth/aperture settings.
This all looks lovely BTW Karba, and I second for bokeh blade/pattern masking. That would rock!
+1 for a true optic system, i mean like with photo, aperture changes DOF...

Very cool Karba
I believe this type of bokeh is produced by a 'mirror' or 'catadioptric' lens. It is also called donut bokeh. You can google image search any of those terms to see plenty of examples of how it may be used aesthetically.
