Sure here is the post:

I also noticed about a memory issue. My RAM was bloating and bloating until a small scene occupied 14GB /24GB. I didnt care because I thought it may be because I loaded several .max to collect materials.
One question:
Why does the material editor takes so long to update if I have a multi/mat with 17 materias in? Around 10 seconds until all has been updated? Is it because the thumbnails get generated?

You can use HDR image to save whole range of Z depth.
Thank you for your reply. Well I haven´t had any good results jet. Even if I save the image as 32 bit floating point .exr or hdr. Im not realy sure about the max frame buffer. I think it compress the floating point image to standard range but floating point. I´m not sure. It´s hard to get adequat information from the image anyway. I think it worked better in earlier builds.
best

I've finally cancelled my 3dsMax subscription. 2013 is probably the biggest waste of money yet, after many years of wasting money !
From Autodesk
Unfortunately, you can’t use 2012 plug-ins with 3ds Max 2013. The SDK is different from prior releases due to the move to Unicode (finally) in this release. This is an example of a massive sw engineering project we had to undertake to deal with legacy code. This was by far, the largest investment in touching all the code in 3ds Max since 64b. Unfortunately, most of you don’t care that we’re now Unicode, but it will make life a lot easier for everyone working with 3ds Max on a foreign OS or are using one of the 5 language versions 3ds Max comes in and are trying to share data. Don't forget, you still have a "save as 2010" feature in this release to maintain data compatibility with older pipelines.

Yup, join the group. I cancelled mine this month after three years of "that's not what I want" updates. If I really want the next update then I'll pay the late fee but that will be a hard sell. Since they moved to uni-code their only saving grace would be to dump all the updates Maya has been getting over the past three years in. I want HumanIK and a Fluid Sim.
