The surface normals shown not ok on the exported obj...
Hm, when i export that with the softimage obj-export, it shows the same
When i import the mesh in Modo, it shows as in the images...
And, he has no UV´s
But now i must go to work...

all right, done more testing with the .obj on my side:
- if I reimport an .obj made with the native xsi exporter i get this:
it looks correct, the normals are unaltered. It is correctly read by Mudbox too.
- if I reimport an .obj made with the new exporter however all I get is a flat line

(same in Mudbox so it's not XSI)
so there is definitely something strange about the .obj normals output.
but be it with your plugin exported .obj or native .obj (manually loaded in octane) ... in Octane with both I get the same shading/smoothing error.
however if I manually import the .obj into octane (both native or plugin) and
unckeck the option "use OBJ normals if supplied" , it renders fine without errors.
thanks for your help anyway.

When i use the original obj-export with the option "User Normals" and reload it in Softimage, but see the image...

I haven't looked into how normals are being calculated, but I just wanted to say the fact we can now export out subdivs is
awesome
I really didn't expect that.

I found the solution!
This was my fault. The error in the normals export was caused by a rotation (-180°) applied to the left part of the wristband. I zeroed the rotation by
freezing the transforms before export and now the normals are OK in Octane.
pfiuu, I can have a drink on that one!
ps: that's my watch mlody47

Seems to work correct

Some rotation, some +/- scaling.

SubD´s also working with +/- scales and rotations
