Obviously (I'm guessing) many of us are really interested in the Octane-Team Render.
If possible, could you reach out to the otoy people and have them post something here so everyone can see this?

hmm, sorry i understood wrong. Without octane standalone is not available. But anyway it's worth to ask about possibility for render licences.

Hmmm. This sounds like the need for a license server solution.
Having to purchase the stand alone + plugin for each client: too pricey for me.

FYI: The m4d iray devs have Team Render working now. Purchase one plugin and you get 5 render nodes included.

I'm hoping otoy can make something like this happen as well.

Yes, that is what I was aming at. Didn't want to post it that direct way this time, like the hint on irays LPE technique in Octane 1.5 thread before ;)

I think OTOY should consider different solution for buying another license.
Current solution requires to buy standalone and plugin
only to render with multiple machines. It's to expensive and make no sense
if I want to use couple machines to render and only one to work with.

We should pay only for standalone, plugin should be free similar to other render engines.

Another reason for price is standalone software.
it's faraway from other render engines. It's just limited and development of new releases is very slow.

I guess that wasn't much of a hint. I know devs can get pretty snarky when backed into a corner. Sorry.
I sent Otoy a nice email (no apples & oranges comparison)inquiry. Hopefully I will hear back soon.

I am on Windows 8.1 with a gtx 780 and 0.96 keeps crashing, saying "Cinema 4D has stopped working." The demo worked great, so I paid for it and it almost seems like activation is what messed things up, because now even going back 0.72b it crashes, not on startup but when I launch the Octane render window. I've copied the files to the application directory and still nothing. Any ideas?

Hi Aoktar,

I found bug and solution.
But my solution requires some time to fix this bug.
I have to go through all objects and there is to much of them
and not much time when working with client.


Bug description:
Currently I'm working on complex architectural project
Object is build with walls that use boolean object (converted to editable objects).
After I press render to live viewer or picture viewer cinema + octane crashed.

Solution:
Each wall with boolean object has ngons and some unoptimised points.
I did simple optimisation to all wall meshes
- optimise unused points,
- remove ngons,

after that it's working without any problems.

If you like I can send both scene setups before and after,
So you can have closer look to that project.

Is there any chance to make this optimisation automatic?

can you give me more clue? does Standalone can work and render? R15? any plugins in C4d?
