Well I had no issue updating so please don't put off the update due to this bug :)

Full demo day with the ORBX viewer.

My findings of the app after a full day of demoing my work during the Dutch VR Days.

First of I’d like to say that I’m really glad this viewer is here and allows us to create scripts to tell stories in VR using mixed media like 360 photos, 360 videos, hotspots, ‘regular’ videos, background sound loops and intro sounds and voiceovers. This way one can do some really good storytelling.

Some things I’d like to see added/changed/improved;

As stated earlier, I’d like to be able to share/download content from within the app, preferably protected files. As I understood his is being developed as we speak ;-)

More input options. First time users often miss the trackpad or accidentally touch/tap it causing unwanted interactions. Even just the gamepad ‘one’ button would be a good start. A rollover countdown button for hands free input is also a welcome option.

Popup videos are nice, I’d like to be able to call these from hotspots, is it also possible to have popup images that can be closed when viewed?

When removing the Gear VR from your head the app does not close/pause, it continues. I’d really like to have the app go into a paused state. I had two Gear VR’s for my demo, a Note 4 version and a S6. The Note 4 overheats after about 20-30 minutes of use needing even more time than that to fully cool down. The S6 version could run up to 40-60 minutes. People stood in line to view my demos so there was no time to shut the app down and let the phones cool down in between demos. I’m glad I had two devices but still had to disappoint people sometimes.

Great info C360.

So based on your information, if were to do a demo at some event, I'd take four GearVR HMDs, two of them in use and two cooling down and then switch..

I suppose this overheating will not be solved anytime soon..?

I really think the overheating is due to some other tasks compounding the issue in the background. I've never had either my Note 4 or S6 version complain of over heating. But I don't really have anything else on the phones.

To avoid downtime due to overheating I'd suggest to have at least two S6's available per headset if you need to demo for a longer period of time. I'm creating a charger dock for a client with a cooling fan built-in, to cool down after overheating and even avoid some charging generated heat as well!

The Samsungs I'm using are only used for this purpose and not as a phone, all background processes are stopped before lunch and wifi and bluetooth are off. Besides the Oculus software only some cardboard apps have been installed and the usual, unavoidable, Samsung/Android database of software that comes with the device automatically (and just keeps on installing updates, grrr)

In my experience its the charging that overheats the phone more than anything else. Thats probably why people are getting dif results because some people are more concerned about keeping things fully charged than others.

Hi Otoy,
why don't you create an authoring app to link panoramas, videos, positional audio, points of interest, etc. similar to the Pano VR software?
I want to link visually my panos, add animated buttons that I can navigate throug the pad.
We are artists not programmers.
Adobe Muse is a good example for who wants to create a website in 3 minutes rich of graphics.
Imagine this app for the virtual world.
Imagine....

Otoy have already said these features will be available in Octane 3.0.

Yes. In script nodes. We agree artists need this as an alt. to coding. See my earlier posts in this thread.
