So rendering of 2 point polys will be possible with 2.0, but not with 1.5?

Yes, only Octane 2.0 supports hair rendering, or rendering two points polygons as tubes.

That will be great for cables also, as dynamic simulation of 2 points polychain is super fast and easy.

New 2.0 feature: Support of Lightwave procedural texture nodes with a new rasterizer tool available in the image texture node.
They are not true infinite resolution procedurals. This is a function to rasterize the Lightwave procedurals at render time. You are going to get a 2D texture map from the procedural node that is projected over the object using it's UV map or the mapping available in the projection node.
This procedurals don't match the Lightwave procedural behavior, but anyway they are very useful. It works at render time, and you can see the changes in the procedural parameters in the IPR window in near real time (to make this possible, the rasterizer code is multithread, using all the CPU cores available in your system).

I asked this at Newtek, but will ask her too
Firstly, this is monumental. I love you for this.
Will we be able to mix these procedurals with images?
Will we be able to mix procedurals as input to displacement?
Will that be animatable? (Obviously with a hit in time)

Yes, you can use the 2D image node. You only need to set the projection mode to planar and select the Y projection axis. One side effect is that you can use now the LW color correction nodes, or any other node with color or scalar inputs
You can mix procedurals or images using the math or utility nodes without problems.
You can use the procedurals for displacements (there is a switch to rasterize the procedurals as HDR images to avoid artifacts)
And yes, you can animate the procedural parameters without problems
