does that mean it's an easy fix?
I think it is fixed? Use Colored Clay mode instead of Clay Mode.

but unless i'm missing something Colored Clay mode is very different to a Clay render no?
Colored Clay is more like a Normal render, or is there a way to override the clay material to grey?

also, just testing this again and i don't think either Clay or Colored Clay work when the Polygon Side Invert is enabled.
in fact i'd guess that Clay or Colored Clay work the same way and this may be the reason why Polygon Side isn't working as expected in this case in Clay mode (trying to make a roof invisible looking down into an interior)

I just re-tested this, and yes, you are correct (and I was mistaken). Polygon Side is not working in Clay or Colored Clay mode.
So back to your original question....yes, I think ArchiCAD will support single sided poly, and therefore Polygon Side can be used (plugged into the Opacity pin) to make a material invisible from behind. However this will only work in Normal Rendering, not either of the Clay Rendering modes.
