Hi Juanjo,

I'm assuming that the additional grid fields in the obj level geo Octane menu would allow the volumes to be colored by an attribute (Cd). Is this currently possible in this release and if so, any tips on how to hook it up?

hey Juanjgon.
Thx for the lightning fast update.
Very happy about the clipping material fix i was dealing with this specific problem right now. Can t wait to test this. The custom ray epsilon is a good idea to tackle some specific issue about this shader.

This few last weeks i m working with super large scale scene. With shot framed with super close objects and others super far . A custom ray epsilon by shaders for all shader will be great in some scenario (mainly for optimisation not graphical artefact like the clipping material can produce). I guess this is a Octane Core side of thing right ? Nothing you can deal with in a distant future to put ray epsilon override everywhere ?

One more thing : talking about the new QT viewer. Do you have some features sneak peaks ? Some productivity tools will be a great addition. Stuffs like a magnifier/ numerical data inspector, a snapshot and compare tool, brightness/gamma/offset sliders independant from imager, a 2d image pixel zoom ...

Hey Juanjo,

One more question. Do you have any idea why you click Snapshot in the IPR it takes Mplay almost a minute to open? During that time Houdini and or the IPR window is pretty much frozen and the cursor becomes a spinner. If I open Mplay from the application icon it opens immediately, but there's no connection to the Octane IPR. It seems that the only way to use this feature is click the button and let the IPR spawn an Mplay instance. Any thoughts on how I can speed this up or what may be causing it?

Thanks / Travis

another question, does this have any type of support for rest attributes to drive triplanar/noises like redshift does yet? it's been a minute since ive used octane and i know i requrested that a while ago and required some core updates but not sure if it's made it in yet.
Nope, sorry. This feature is not available yet, but supporting the rest attribute is a planned feature, probably for Octane 2022.x

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Terryvfx wrote:One more note before leaving @juanjgon do you think it's possible for the Distortion Texture input field in the Render Target to be updated to an actual texture input? I used Octane in Cinema before and I could plug a texture here with good results.
You can do this yourself editing the render target HDA and adding the texture node, as you can see in the attached image.

Thanks,

Nope, sorry, this is not possible currently, but the support of colored volume grids has been requested several times, so I hope to see this feature implemented in the Octane core at some point in the near future.

Thanks,

Nope, I'm afraid that this is a core limitation related to the fact that Octane works using float precision math, like probably all the GPU renderers out there. If you can't get enough precision for the near/far objects, I'm afraid that adjusting the whole project scales or composing several layers in post is the only solution.

The idea is to match the current IPR window features to later add new ones if possible. Currently, you can snapshot to MPlay to have all the features that you are requesting.

Thanks,

Hmm, I have no idea why this happens. Here MPlay is opened in less than a second. Are you working on Windows?

Thanks,

Thanks for the reply. After hearing that it was working flawlessly for you I started to think what could be causing the issue. I have a 2080Ti and Quadra P2000 card in my machine. I use the P2000 to drive my display so the 2080 can be fully dedicated to rendering. In the Octane settings I had the P2000 turned on as well and this was causing the issue. With it off Mplay starts right up every time from a snapshot. I believe the P2000 gives me a bit of a boost in my render times so I'll turn it on for final renders and keep it off for look dev.

Yea, I'm definitely looking forward to this being implemented. Thanks for the update.
