plasmapeppers wrote:Ok with the PR 7 Standalone it works as expected - and its definitely faster! I suspect the crashing might have something to do with code signing as the PR7 DMG + the App bundle were not signed properly - had to override, and so it might be that the Cinema 4D version isn't giving me the chance to override and is just crashing. Just speculation though.
It seems a bad installation to me
Please share a screenshot like this one, that shows both the c4doctane directory opened, and the entire installation path, thanks:

Actually it looks like I had managed to install it in two different C4D plugin folders. Oops! They should streamline that

Having it in Cinema's bundle /Applications/Maxon Cinema 4D R2X/plugins and in Cinema's other plugins folder ~/Library/Preferences/Maxon/Maxon Cinema 4D R2X/plugins.

Not totally certain how it happened, but it is good to see its a me problem. Keep up the good work on Octane X!

SO which is the preferred place to have it?
I know that Redshift always put it in the maxon?????r23/plugins
But i always had the older octane builds in the user/lib/prefs/maxon.... etc.. location..

Which is the correct place?

This is such great news. I'm amazed by all of the work that the team at Otoy have done to bring, and then keep, Octane on the Mac. Thank you! I'm wondering if anyone might be able to give me a sense of the performance of the M1 chip, as I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop and would love to have a truly portable system without eGPU.

I always put it in the main plugins folder (in Applications>Maxon...) and never had any issues. I mean, when it worked.

I've noticed render vendors seem to be reluctant to offer that info, and it's understandable. They don't want to piss off their partners. And they know it would unfairly portray M1.

M1 is an *exceptionally* promising platform but it's very new and the current GPU, while super for a sub-compact form, is not yet suitable for pro use. You'll be rewarded for patience.

Consider the current M1 offerings feature only 4 performance CPU cores (the other cores are only for efficiency) and 8 GPU cores. There will soon be systems with 2x, 3x 4x, 5x the core count. The future will be very bright for Apple Silicon, but for high end GPU performance especially...you need a higher end system with more cores.

Google M1x and you'll understand the jump that's coming...and why you better wait.

Anyone else on PR7 with macos 11.01 - notice that trying to download anything from LiveDB is instant beachball of C4d?
Very odd.

Please upgrade to Big Sur 11.1 stable to have the latest apple Metal driver, or this version cannot work.
