As there is much information required for a diagnosis, most of which is not available on this thread, here's a page covering several rendering aspects and kernel settings (work in progress). It can be used to double check everything in case something was overlooked.
With enough optimizations and proper handling of alpha, it should be manageable.
Denoising comes last and is a great aid for remaining samples, after Adaptive Sampling was properly tweaked as per the "scene" (rather the camera, If there is more than one).
