No, my scene is just an exercise, trying out Octane with bullet dynamics. I could upload it if Juanjo has time to look at it. (need an email address)

Hi,

Yes, please. You can send the scene to me to [email protected]

If it is a simulation, perhaps the problem is related to render the scene in "update" mode. Also can be a problem related to ngons, or perhaps you have some kind of overlapped geometry. I'll take a look at it if you send me the scene.

Thanks,
-Juanjo

Thanks Juanjo, you've got mail.

Thanks for the scene. Yes, it is a polygon overlapping issue. You have the same object at the same position twice, using the object dissolve tool to try to hide one of them.

This doesn't work in Octane. The object dissolve is done adjusting the objects materials opacity, and two polygons can't be overlapped even if one of them has the opacity to 0% because they are rendered with artifacts. There must be a slight distance between the polygons of the two objects to avoid these artifacts.

Hope this helps,
-Juanjo

Thanks Juanjo, that solved my issue. I needed the double objects as after the simulation handled by the mdd, the objects move again via keyframes. I can easily break this up into two scenes and get the animation I was going for.

Funny but I had exactly the same issue yesterday and a fellow LWer helped me out. I did try the slight move of the geometry but that didn't work either, so I'm going to do the fade in comp. A shame but all part of the learning curve I guess.

You need to slight displace the overlapped polygons at least two or three times the ray epsilon value to avoid these problems.

Thanks,
