you have to take in count the particular texture projection and transformation, especially when working with material ball and its own dimensions.
In this particular case, the Saw wave texture generator is a 2D shader and the dfault projection is XYZ to UVW (Planar projection). So, in order to see it correctly on the material ball, you have to play with the UVW transform node to adapt it: Obviously, you have to play with the setting based on you particular geometry, not the material ball that is for preview only.
Here is an example scene with a mix version and a singol material version by using the gradient node in the roughness only: ciao beppe
