Looking into it now.
Btw, since you are a full timer linux user:
How did you install Maya on Linux, since afaik it comes only in .rpms and I'm on Ubuntu and need deb packages.
I used some guide to convert it to deb packages with the command alien, but the installed version fails to start...
With the Autodesk guide, using the rpm tool it fails too.
Asking Autodesk for proper instructions for Ubuntu,
cause honestly they should provide a setup for Ubuntu
(so debian based distributions) that works out of the box
and does not need any debugging...
ps Ticket to AD is out, waiting for answer...
and trying it on CentOS while waiting...
Unfortunately, I have nothing more heard.
I have a test system with Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 with Nvidia 367.27 installed.
Have the rpm to deb convert there was no problem. Pass
Maya 2016 SP6 install with the deb package. Pass
Maya 2016 SP6 start without problem, no crash. Pass
Then install octane_maya2016_3.03.2-8.02.run.
1:
Install OK.

Point 2
2:
The same problem as under Centos 7 plugin can not be loaded.
Had me wondering when it comes.
The plugin contains the error
Here is the error message:
// Error: line 1: Unable to dynamically load : /usr/autodesk/maya2016/bin/plug-ins/OctanePlugin.so
/usr/autodesk/maya2016/bin/plug-ins/OctanePlugin.so: undefined symbol: _ZNK7MPxNode9dependsOnERK5MPlugS2_Rb //
// Error: line 1: /usr/autodesk/maya2016/bin/plug-ins/OctanePlugin.so: undefined symbol: _ZNK7MPxNode9dependsOnERK5MPlugS2_Rb (OctanePlugin) //
3:
Is that done
Just as it looks missing the shelf Icons
Automatic creation of basic node graph
Automatic connection with fluid shapes
shelf_OctaneRender.mel was not adjusted and icons missing
I can help you.
Sorry for my English.
