In real life I have a car (custom build nissan 200sx s13) with matte paint finish. So please dont tell the others that car paint is always reflective and its always 2 layers or more., becouse its not :)
I've been talking about metallic carpaint. I know, cars with matte carpaint exist, and I'm glad for you what you have one. In my opinion thread starter has tried to do metallic carpaint, but it looks like cheap aluminium spoon. May be "cheap aluminium spoon" carpaint exists and here we have exellent example of this one. In this case I've made a mistake and gave useless advice, guys, don't follow it.

I'm not trying to invent the wheel or discover America again. I'm sure most of us know how to do carpaint, but some people still don't understand how it works, I'm just trying to help. I prefer layered shader even if carpaint isn't metallic because BDRF of paint layer isn't lambertian. That's why I asked octane team add falloff (facing ratio, incidence etc) node - I want to control color depending on 'normal-view direction' angle manually.

Skeletor: Yes, like I've said there's a lot to be done on this car, this was just a test.

adrencg : Yes, it is too much of a reflection blur but it "sort of" should be like that (please see the image attached). The only flaw is that it's too much reflective, it should be more diffused. I've only used this shader to check the surface quality.

rman1974 : I already knew all that but Thank You for your explanation. It's not useless, some people did (and will) find it useful.

mlody47: I've seen your renderings and MAN YOU ROCK. Finally someone who gets that not everything is black and white:) I was a big pearlescent coat lover but from the moment when i saw the Lamborghini reventon (in live) things have changed.... Nowdays I'm a MATTE FINISH LOVER. I'm overloaded with the paying work but since we all have a week more to enter the competition, I'll make sure to enter with the finished car model and some murky parking level. I have the image in my head, well you know how it goes... btw. Yes, you guessed right, i was gunning for the matte finish from the start :) I don't know if you'll enter with "the monks" image or not, the only thing i would try to do is to add some stitching on the monks cloth and extrude the edge on the hood so it can catch some light. Other than that its perfect, composition, lighting, everything is spot on.

My fiance will be pissed for the time I'm going invest into this piece but - it is what it is:)

THANK YOU ALL FOR REPLYING, it really means a lot. I was like - bloody hell no one has nothing to say... now I'm starting to feel like a true Octaner:)

All the best,
Voja
